Christmas 2013 David got me a present that said we would go to Hawaii for our 10 year anniversary! I was so excited! I kept trying to plan the trip, but each time I did something would break and not a small and cheap something either. Things like the van, water heater and a few other things. Finally after about the 3rd thing broke I decided that now might not be the best time for us to go to Hawaii for whatever reason! I still wanted to go somewhere though. David was having a conference in Las Vegas in November and we decided that would be a perfect vacation for us! One, it was way cheaper than Hawaii, since his work would be paying for majority of it and two, because anything without me having to take care of kids these days is a true vacation! So we had David’s mom come out and watch the kids for us. We left on Monday afternoon and were gone until Friday night. It was the longest I have ever been away from my kids minus my Grandpa’s funeral back in 2009, when I had mono and was seriously on so many medicines that most of that trip was a complete blur! Anyways! We got to Vegas Monday afternoon and we stayed at the MGM Grand. It sounded fabulous…that is until I saw how big all these hotels actually are, when you are staying in one. Just to get from our room to the main street it took a good 15 minutes, no lie! Everything looks so close, when we would look out our window and then we actually try to go next door and it took a lifetime! We had all day Monday and Tuesday to just walk around and explore. We did some shopping a lot of eating and a lot of just doing nothing. As parents we don’t have that luxury too often, so we both soaked it up as much a we could. We went and ate at one of Wolfgang Puck’s many restaurants and it was delicious. We had looked into going to some other big named chef’s restaurants until we looked at the prices and I just couldn’t bring myself to pay over $100 for just one of our meals! It was insane how expensive everything was there. Some co-workers of David’s and their wives came Wednesday night and it was nice to have some friends to hang out with. We all went out the first night they got there and were having a great meal until David told us that his water tasted weird. We just thought he was being David, until I tried it. It was disgusting!! It tasted like a little heavy cream with mostly water and then a horrible after taste. He told our waiter, so the waiter got him a new cup and poured some more water for him from the same container and it still tasted horrible. By the end of the meal all of us had the foul tasting water! It took me a few weeks to be able to drink water again without getting the taste in my mouth again. It was terrible! On Thursday the other wives, Stephanie and Elisa, went and did some shopping at one of the huge malls and grabbed a bite to eat. It was so nice to have them there. Thursday night David got invited to a dinner with some people and they insisted that I come as well. I never turn down free food! So we went and there was so much food. The appetizers they ordered was pretty much every seafood you can think of. They were so yummy and then we had filets for dinner and some delicious desserts. It was so delicious. The only bad thing was that they had 2 tables and we were at the smaller table with one very talkative and getting drunk guy that loved telling us all about all the clubs he hits every week and how many people he knows and all these stories of him being drunk. All the people at our table were shocked to hear how young we were and that we have 4 kids at home! That was unbelievable to them, which is to most people. It was still a nice night. On Friday morning before we headed back home, the girls and I went on the bus to get some pedicures. It was nice to get my feet pampered after so much walking that week.
One of the funniest things about our trip was our hotel rooms we were put into. The first one was okay minus the fact that the bathroom door only went a little above your head and was broken on top of that, so absolutely no privacy. The shower door was also broken. We looked past that though. That is until the second night, when we got woken in the middle of the night by a beeping every couple of minutes. It was the fire alarm telling us it was low on batteries. So we had someone come replace the battery at 2:00 in the morning and then we were going to just stay in the room until later that morning, when David tried to take a shower and it was cold. So after that we switched rooms. David went to the next room and it was still dirty and hadn’t been cleaned from the previous guests. The third room was a success. It was a long night. Other than that, it was an amazing trip!! So relaxing. All I had to worry about was eating, sleeping and shopping! A great way to celebrate 10 years!
We headed back home on Friday afternoon and it was great to get back home to the kids. They were somewhat excited to see us, but let’s face it they were with Meme and Papa all week, so they had an amazing week without us! It’s great to get away and great to get home too.
